While searching for a trainer to initially evaluate my Goldendoodle for the Canine Good Citizen test, I came across Mary’s website and liked what I read about her educational background and training philosophy. Even though Poppy (the above mentioned doodle) had passed beginner and intermediate training classes at another facility, I knew she needed more work in order to pass the CGC exam. Her doodle personality – “life is grand and I love everyone” – can sometimes get the best of her, and I worried she would not be calm enough to work as a therapy dog.
During our first appointment, Mary took a detailed dog and owner history and then pointed out issues that needed additional work. Her kind approach and gentle manner with Poppy were most impressive. There was lots of positive reinforcement for Poppy when things went well – Mary’s hidden stash of cheese sticks work wonders! As the appointment proceeded, Poppy made good progress, and I learned better techniques to handle her. We returned for a second appointment shortly afterwards, and with Mary’s excellent teaching, I continued to refine Poppy’s progress.
If you are looking for a dog trainer, look no farther. I am pleased to highly recommend Mary Huntsberry for the wonderful service she provides. You, and your dog, will learn much in terms of behavior modification and will have a great time doing so. And, there’s nothing better than having a well-trained dog!
